The curriculum-destructive\u00a0<em>My School <\/em>was published by ACARA. It is an historical occasion that \u00a0marks the demise of pupil-oriented schooling in Australia.\u00a0\u00a0The site\u00a0opened today as a curiosity item and worked for her-who-must-be-obeyed.\u00a0\u00a0There were millions of\u00a0hits from the curious&#8230;\u00a0so it was judged to be\u00a0\u00a0a success.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The Week&#8217; magazine [29 January 2010] portrayed the incident well on its front cover.\u00a0The brilliant John Tiedemann cartoon showed\u00a0the all-powerful, supreme commander standing in front of a chalk-board looking very stern indeed. She is holding a cane, bent, ready to use. The cowed teachers are before her, with one, a little\u00a0dunce, quivering in the corner.\u00a0\u00a0On the chalk-board in large letters is &#8216;SCHOOLS ON TRIAL\u00a0 Miss Gillard Sets the Test.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0The cartoon\u00a0is an historical gem.<\/p>\n<p>The already-available school supplied website of\u00a0each\u00a0school provides all the information needed by most parents. If I want to check out what\u00a0\u00a0any school does, I&#8217;m old enough to sense\u00a0whether it provides for my child&#8217;s interests. Some school sites are a bit slack at this time of the year\u00a0\u00a0and I confess to checking to see who is telling the parents about the consequences of blanket testing and providing a form for those who wish to withdraw.\u00a0Surely that is fair to all concerned.\u00a0I&#8217;m disappointed so far. As a parent I demand to know what is going on at my school, state-wide and nation-wide and I want to hear it from my Principal. I&#8217;d like to know where my Principal stands on issues&#8230;in print, preferably.<\/p>\n<p>Apropos : In 2007, Chris Bonnor and Jane Caro wrote <em>&#8220;THE STUPID COUNTRY &#8211; \u00a0\u00a0How Australia is Dismantlng Public Education<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0Its\u00a0candidness about our move to a two-class education system, as you will know, is enlightening. Chris, a Secondary School Principal was, until recently, President of The NSW Secondary Prinipals Associaion&#8230;.a practising professional. He comments occasionally on On Line Opinion.<\/p>\n<p>One is tempted to write\u00a0 a book from a Primary School perspectve,\u00a0called <em>&#8220;GETTING STUPIDER AND STUPIDER&#8221;.<\/em> Chapter headings [frivolous, but meaningful] :- 1.Plumbers are running the Garage.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a02.\u00a0 ACARA\u00a0rhymes with\u00a0CASCARA ?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 3. Frau Julia\u00a0sacks professional principals.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4.\u00a0 How to teach toadies to pussy-foot.\u00a0\u00a0 5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Evaluate, assess, judge, test,\u00a0grade and appraise with ease.\u00a0\u00a0 6. What happened to my favourite subject ? A pupil&#8217;s perspective.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a07. How to stop pupils and parents from sharing evaluation\u00a0.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 8. Short cuts to the 3Rs&#8230;Repetition, Repetition, Repetition. 9. How an educratic &#8216;expert&#8217; can record schooling experience on a postage stamp in large font. 10.
